Approximate end date: 20th April 2027About the role
We’re hiring an experienced graphic designer to join one of New Zealand’s fastest growing full service marketing agencies on a seven month fixed term contract, covering maternity leave. We are aiming to provide approximately one month of overlap with our current Graphic Designer to allow for a thorough handover.
This is not an entry level role. We need someone who is highly proficient in branding and can confidently step into an established design position, pick up active projects, and continue delivering work to the standard our clients expect.
You’ll work across a wide range of client brands and projects, including logo creation, brand identity development, brand guidelines, catalogues, brochures, flyers, site signage, social media graphics, website assets, and campaign collateral.
Designing and building Squarespace websites will also be a significant part of the role. Previous Squarespace experience is helpful but not essential, as the platform can be taught to someone with a strong design eye and a good understanding of digital layouts. Website copy will be provided by our Marketing Manager, allowing you to focus primarily on the design and build.
You will need to quickly understand existing brands, files, systems, and design direction, then carry projects forward with minimal disruption.
Why Join Us
You’ll be part of a fast growing agency where design plays a major role in how we build and position client brands.
Team of 10 across content, design, coordination, and marketing
All work produced in house, fast paced and high standard
Hands on founders, you’ll work directly with decision makers
Business has doubled in size each year for the past four years
Wide variety of branding, digital, and print projects
The environment:
Supportive team that actually gets things done
Regular work events and team catch ups
Pastry Fridays
Office sausage dog, Beans!
What you’ll be doing
You will be responsible for taking ownership of design work across a range of active client accounts and projects.
This includes:
Branding and Brand Identity
Creating original logo concepts and developing them into complete brand identities
Producing professional brand guidelines covering logo use, typography, colour, graphic elements, and overall visual direction
Developing supporting brand assets that can be applied consistently across digital and print media
Understanding the strategy and thinking behind a brand, rather than simply creating something that looks good
Presenting and explaining creative concepts and design decisions to the team and clients
Picking up branding projects already in progress and continuing them without losing the original direction or quality
Digital and Print Design
Creating catalogues, brochures, flyers, site signage, banners, social media graphics, website assets, and other marketing collateral
Working confidently within established brand identities and guidelines
Taking over existing files and projects created by our current designer
Preparing accurate, print ready artwork and digital assets
Maintaining consistency across large documents and complete suites of collateral
Creative Concepts
Developing creative concepts that align with each client’s brand, audience, and marketing strategy
Turning briefs and ideas into strong, commercially effective visual outcomes
Applying a consistent visual direction across different platforms and materials
Identifying opportunities to strengthen a client’s existing visual identity
Brand Consistency and Quality Control
Acting as the custodian of all outgoing design work
Ensuring every project accurately follows the relevant brand identity and guidelines
Checking artwork thoroughly before it is supplied, printed, published, or passed to another team member
Maintaining a consistently high standard across every client account
Project Management
You’ll use Boxcrib’s internal project management dashboard to track and manage your workload, working closely with the Marketing Manager to prioritise projects and meet deadlines
Managing multiple branding and design projects simultaneously
Prioritising work effectively and meeting agreed deadlines
Reviewing existing project files, understanding their status, and taking over responsibility for delivery
Keeping projects moving and communicating clearly with the wider team
Applying client and internal feedback accurately and efficiently
Collaboration
Working with marketing coordinators, content creators, and the wider Boxcrib team
Communicating directly with clients when required
Contributing ideas that support wider marketing campaigns and strategy
Working through concepts collaboratively while also being capable of progressing projects independently
What we’re looking for
Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in graphic design or a related field
At least two years of professional graphic design experience, with strong branding experience essential
A strong portfolio demonstrating logo design, brand identity creation, and brand guideline development
Proven experience producing catalogues, brochures, flyers, and other multi page or print collateral
Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
Ability to open an existing project, understand the design direction, and continue the work confidently
A strong eye for typography, colour, layout, visual hierarchy, and brand application
Experience preparing artwork for professional printing
Confident working across multiple brands with different audiences and visual styles
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Highly organised and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Strong attention to detail and a high standard of quality control
Good understanding of current graphic design and branding best practices
Bonus if you have
Agency experience
Experience working with construction, trade, property, or business to business brands
Experience with website design or preparing assets for web development
What the role requires
Advanced capability in logo creation, brand identity development, and brand guideline creation
The ability to immediately take ownership of existing design projects
Confidence working from another designer’s files, concepts, and established direction
Consistently high quality work across branding, digital, and print
Strong attention to detail across every project
Confidence managing multiple briefs and deadlines
Clear communication with both the team and clients
Ownership of projects from brief through to completion
A proactive approach to solving design problems and improving creative outcomes
This is an approx. seven month fixed term role covering maternity leave. You’ll be stepping into an established position with active branding, catalogue, brochure, flyer, digital, website, and print projects already underway.
We need someone who can get up to speed quickly, understand where each project is at, and confidently pick up where our current designer has left off.
If you’re a versatile and experienced designer who is highly capable in branding, comfortable taking ownership, and able to maintain a high standard across multiple client accounts, we’d like to hear from you.
